Tangent is an artist-run gallery/studio space
established June of 2007. Designed and built
in a corner shop that once housed a Safeway,
Tangent is a modest gallery with three simple
goals: To display dynamic and compelling
modern art by local and non-local artists,
to give back to the neighborhood in which
they established the gallery by attracting
commerce and visitors, and to serve to
community of Sacramento by offering art
that, in many cases, other local galleries
have been unwilling to display.

Dear Friend of Tangent,

We need your HELP in the month of August to celebrate TANGENT’s 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY!

As you know, regardless of being located outside the central arts district, Tangent is a popular place to stop in and visit on Second Saturdays due in large part to our unique and quality programming. Despite the enthusiastic crowds however, we do not make any money when we actually sell work. If and when work is sold, the proceeds go to the owner of Tangent in an effort to recoup the cost of building the space. Gioia Fonda, Aaron Brown and Ianna Frisby have been volunteering their time and effort to bring quality art shows to the community simply as a 'labor of love'. Running a gallery is always a precarious enterprise but the current state of our economy has added even more stress. In these challenging economic times you may have noticed that a few of the alternative art spaces around town have lost the struggle and have shut their doors. Sacramento’s art scene is vital partly because of the healthy diversity of spaces in which to show. A very real absence and loss is felt each time a space closes. Against all odds, Tangent has been successfully creating visually dynamic, thought provoking shows to the region for two years and we remain committed to this goal, but could use some help.

For the month of August, we are asking artists to donate work at special recession friendly prices to help us raise a small budget to work with for the next year. We have a modest goal of raising $1000. This money will help us do a variety of things from buying paint for the walls, improving our website, better promoting our shows, to just having better snacks at openings. These expenses are often paid for out of own pockets which can sometimes make our little labor of love feel like more like an economic burden.

So, if you enjoy and appreciate what we do at Tangent, please consider purchasing a work of art at our upcoming fundraiser/two year anniversary exhibit.

Additionally, we will be providing an opportunity for the public to make small cash donations ($5-20) or simply bring in an item from our growing wish list:

Ladder (6 ft or higher)
Self-healing cutting mat
Power Strip
Fire Extinguisher
Extension Cords
Gently used laptop (with wireless capability and Word)
Double Sided tape
Gift Cards to hardware or office supply stores
Level, preferably 3 ft or longer
Yardstick
Kilz wall primer Scotch tape and masking tape
Paint Rollers (for interior walls)
Colored Chalk
Exact-o blade
Sharpies
Small plastic cups for openings
Flashlight
Razorblades
Metal Ruler (18 inches or longer)
Glass Cleaner
Paper Towels
Large Plastic Wastebasket (plain looking)

Thanks for all of your support in the last two years and here’s to hoping for that relationship to continue.

PLEASE PASS ON TO ANY INTERESTED PARTIES PLEASE:)

Cheers,
Tangent
