In high school I took two classes from Arneson at UC Davis. At the time, the university had a program where residents of Davis could take classes there. I went on to get his B.A. and M.F.A from UCD and mostly studied with Bob, Roy de Forest, Wayne Thiebaud and Manuel Neri. This sculpture is a portrait of Arneson emerging out of a top loading kiln that is made up of 62 bricks. The 62 bricks signify the years he lived and the emerging from the kiln suggests how creative he was. There are pieces piled around him from various series that Arneson had done in the early years. This was done as part of my series of Artists Heroes.
